[PC] How to Enable DirectX Debug Layers

When in communication with Fatshark Support, it's possible we might ask you to enable DirectX Debug Layers to assist with troubleshooting particularly complicated issues.

We don't recommend doing this unless Fatshark Support has specifically asked you to, as it will impact your performance negatively. 

 

Step 1

Enable 'Graphics Tools' via Windows 'Optional Features' by:

  1. Press Win key + i, or navigate to your PC's 'Settings'
  2. Select 'System'
  3. Select 'Optional Features' within the sidebar
  4. See if 'Graphics Tools' is present within the list. If you already have it installed, you can proceed to the next section. Otherwise, please continue with the remaining steps
  5. Select 'Add a Feature'
  6. Search and select 'Graphics Tools'
  7. Select 'Add'
  8. Allow the download to complete

Step 2

Darktide Vermintide 2

1. Navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 DARKTIDE\bundle\application_settings

2. Open the win32_settings.ini

3. Under win32 -> renderer, change both d3d_debug and d3d_gpu_validation to true as seen below:

 

 

4. Then, under win32, change deadlock_detector_enabled to false as seen below:

 

 

5. Save your changes

1. Navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\bundle

2. Open the settings.ini

3. Under win32 -> renderer, change both d3d_debug and d3d_gpu_validation to true as seen below:

 

 

4. Save your changes

 

Step 3

  1. Launch Darktide or Vermintide 2 as normal
    1. For Vermintide 2, please ensure you are using DirectX 12. This can be changed via the Vermintide 2 launcher's 'Settings' menu
  2. Share your crash report or console log with Fatshark Support 
    1. For instructions on how to do this, please see: How to Provide a Crash Report, Console Log, Launcher Log or user_settings.config
  3. To undo these changes, simply change true back to false, and save your changes
